Sam Maloney (left), Field Deputy, Opelika Unemployment Compensation Tax Office, spoke to the Auburn Lions Club on December 1, 2015, about the work of his office. In particular, he said that classification of employees by employers (laborers or independent contractors) has a big impact on unemployment compensation funds and health insurance funds, which are withheld by employers. Computerization of records has reduced errors in these areas. He then spoke about management and why organizations fail, citing failure to adapt to change, confusion about goals, seeking scapegoats. He urged a positive attitude along with patience, persistence, and the encouragement of creativity. Pictured also is Club Vice-President Keith Ryland.
