On May 3, Troy Turner (right), Editor of the Opelika-Auburn News, spoke to the Auburn Lions Club about editing of a local newspaper and of his experience in the newspaper business. Growing up in this area, he worked for the local newspapers, attended Auburn University, and received a degree in journalism. His entire career has been in journalism, working for mostly western newspapers, but, more recently, in the New York area and in North Carolina. He then spoke about the problems most newspapers face. One of the biggest problems is adapting to the desire of younger readers to get their news electronically and the desire of older readers to get their news on paper. A secondary problem in this area is providing reliable home delivery. Then there are the traditional needs to provide a good range in news coverage and a good balance in editorial content.
